Steve Brine voted on a cross-party motion that will ban the use of all wild animals in circuses on a very busy Thursday 23rd June.
In the middle of a packed schedule in the Commons, as Steve continued fighting for local children's heart surgery, the Winchester & Chandler's Ford MP was delighted to be able to back the motion, brought by an all-party triumvirate of Mark Pritchard (Conservative), Jim Fitzpatrick (Labour) and Bob Russell (Liberal Democrat).
Speaking afterwards, he said: "As an animal lover, this is an issue I feel very strongly about and long before I entered this House I was clear if I ever got the chance I would vote to ban them."
Following the vote, the ban is expected to come into force at some point in 2012. Steve added: "I will now continue to do what I have been doing all along, lobbying DEFRA Ministers effectively here in Parliament to get on and ban the use of wild animals in circuses as soon as legally possible.
