Steve Brine visits Winchester charity Trinity. See pics and how you can help them inside.
Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Winchester, Steve Brine, dropped in on the Trinity Centre in St Paul’s Hill, Fulflood on Friday (June 8 2007).
Trinity is a charity providing services for people experiencing the effects of homelessness, problems with substance misuse, mental health issues, poverty, unemployment and social isolation. It currently operates a drop-in centre in Fullflood just behind Winchester’s central railway station.
Steve was shown around the centre by Manager Ian Davies and Chief Executive Michelle Gardner who were keen to outline their current work, as well ambitious plans for a new state of the art facility at Durngate Place in the city centre.
He says; “Winchester has a drug problem, it has people struggling with alcohol dependency and it has homelessness. This maybe one of the most affluent place in the entire country but these problems are real, they are here and we must face them before they face us. As a previous resident of the Fullflood area of Winchester myself, I am very aware of the work done by Trinity and I am big supporter of what they are doing.
“Trinity Winchester sees an average of 50 clients every day and that is only just below the national average for centres of this kind. I was hugely impressed with their commitment to people they help and the very wide range of flexible services they are able to offer those in need right here in Winchester. I will do everything I can as Winchester’s Parliamentary Candidate to help them, including pressing my own party to ensure help for the work they do remains at the heart of its thinking as we move towards preparing a manifesto for the next General Election.”
Services at The Trinity Centre in St Paul’s Hill have outgrown the premises and Trinity has secured planning permission for a new purpose-designed building at Durngate Place on the site of the old Red Cross building. Significant funds are needed to make this dream a reality; if you want to help please visit their website where you can even donate online www.trinitywinchester.org.uk/durngate.htm
