Prospective MP kicks off campaign over funding. Read more and join the campaign inside!
Prospective MP Steve Brine, has launched a campaign to demand fair funding for our area.
He said local people should be “angry” after Winchester & Chandler's Ford was once again short-changed by Government.
Councils receive grants each year to fund local services - including our schools, adult social care needs, bin collections, road maintenance and bus subsidies.
They raise the rest of their income via already hard-pressed council tax payers. Increasingly however, the ends don’t meet and councillors are faced with a choice between cutting services or massive increases in local bills.
Steve says; “This year’s settlement looks set to be the worst we’ve seen in a decade. This area generates huge amounts of income for the Treasury but the money coming back to protect our services and our environment consistently falls well below inflation. I am angry because this situation is starting to cause real problems for some of the most vulnerable people."
