Steve Brine has expressed his 'shock, horror and deep anger' as riots continue across London and a number of provincial cities.
The Winchester & Chandler's Ford MP released a statement following a press conference given by the Prime Minister, David Cameron, who returned early from holiday to deal with the crisis.
Mr Cameron announced that Parliament will be recalled on Thursday, to give MPs the opportunity to discuss the situation, and to hear a further statement.
He condemned those responsible in the strongest possible terms, and said that those old enough to commit these crimes were old enough to be punished for those crimes. He continued by reminding rioters that they were not just damaging their communities, and other people's lives, but were in danger of ruining their own.
He also reiterated that the courts system would be speeded up, and that those prosecuted and found guilty would face the full force of the law.
Steve Brine said: "Like thousands of the people I represent I have watched events of the past few nights with a sense of shock, horror and deep anger. I don't have an ounce of time for arguments which say this is civil unrest that is in any way justified, it is criminality pure and simple. I stand 100% behind the Prime Minister's statement today (Tuesday 9 August) outside No.10 Downing Street that those who are perpetrating this violence will feel the full force of the law.
"We are fortunate in Winchester & Chandler's Ford that we are merely observing these events happening elsewhere, for now, but let's be clear this effects us and it will I am sure impact negatively on our fragile economy which is the last thing we need right now. It is worth remembering also that constituents of mine will have friends and family members living and working in affected areas and a number of them have contacted my office already to express their disgust at what is going on.
"We are in the height of Summer and I dread to think what the thousands of people who chose to spend their hard earned money and take a holiday in this country must think of Great Britain right now, let alone the millions watching around the world.
"I think it's absolutely right that the Prime Minister, Home Secretary and Mayor of London have returned from their holiday to deal personally with this situation and that Parliament has been recalled on Thursday (11 August) of this week. MPs need the chance to hear the Prime Minister in the House of Commons and to put questions to the Government. I can confirm I have cleared my constituency diary and will be in Parliament on Thursday."
Steve Brine added that he would welcome feedback from constituents before Parliament is recalled this week. Please email steve.brine.mp@parliament.uk
