Steve Brine dropped into St Peters Church Parish Centre on Monday 18th June as The Princess Royal Trust for Carers in Hampshire put on a special 'pamper day'.
Technicians from Peter Symonds' Adult Continuing Education centre volunteered their time to provide manicures and Indian head massages among other services to an expected 60 carers from across the district who were invited to St Peters for this special day.
Local MP Steve Brine dropped into the event before catching his train to Westminster. Speaking from the train, he said: "What a terrific idea to have a Pamper Day and just treat those who spend every other day of the year looking after others. Carers Week is so important, not only to ensure we recognise the role carers play in society but also to keep issues such as long-term and respite care right at the top of the political agenda.
"I am sure the carers enjoyed the treat but I suspect many of them will have had half a mind on what is happening back home. I know it's not that easy to just switch off when you are full-time caring but it was good to meet some of those attending this event and hear a little of the challenges they face day to day over a nail-bar or the massage table. Well done to the Princess Royal Trust for putting this on."
Kerry Hearsey, trust Chief Executive, said: "I am delighted to see so many carers here today and I would also like to thank Steve for coming along and listening to the carers. They do so much day in and day out that it is a privilege to be able to give something back to them in Carers Week.
"Events like today are so important to highlight just how much the carers do and to encourage them to try and take some time for themselves."
